… you saw me standing alone… without a dream of my own.
Or so the song goes.
A blue moon is actually the second full moon in a month. They don’t occur very often, which is how the expression “once in a blue moon” developed.
This moon isn’t even blue, but its blue sky seduces me. It’s titled “Moon Rising” and is painted by Robert Hansen. It can be seen May 2-24 at the Stover Mill Gallery in Bucks County, along with abstract works by Pat Martin, Csilla Sadloch and Loretta Montgomery.
Miraculously, Mr. Hansen only took up painting six years ago after a career with US State Department. He makes his mark with saturated color on canvas, sometimes pouring, otherwise by brush and palette knife. He traces his style to “color field” abstract American painting of the 1950s. Mr. Hansen has exhibited in the Washington, DC, area and in Bucks County including the Artsbridge juried and members’ shows, the New Hope Art League, Tinicum Arts Festival and the Six’06 show. He studied with Pat Martin and Karen Baumeister at Bucks County Community College.
Stover Mill Gallery, 852 River Road, Erwinna, Pa., is open Sat-Sun 1-5 PM. Reception May 3, 1-5 PM. Artists will be present on a rotating basis throughout the show. Free Admission. Stover Mill is located two miles south of Frenchtown Bridge. Wheelchair accessible. 610-294-9420.
